New Camera
I think that it is obligatory for all blogger addicts to break their camera. So I need a new one. Any advice? We want one that will take the picture when you actually push the button, not 2 seconds later. Especially important when you have a baby. Troy says a lot of mega-pixels are good. I can't remember if digital or optical zoom is better. I like good deals too. So I'm open to whatever you can tell us.

I researched cameras a little bit when my mother was looking for one recently.
We ended up getting her a Canon SD 870 IS. I've used her camera some since she got it and I like it a lot. I'm thinking about getting one myself when I don't want to lug around my DSLR (big camera w/ interchangeable lenses that takes fabulous pictures).
I have even been impressed by the videos it takes. Here is a link to a review of it: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd870is/
It also has a pretty wide lens which makes it nice for indoor picture taking when you are close to the things you are photographing.
We bought a Canon Rebel XT right before Luke was born. You can great a deal on the XT's now (look online) because the XTI's (the new version) came out. I don't know much about cameras, but it takes a picture at the exact time that you push the button and the pictures look great!
We just bought the Canon Rebel XTI - I'm addicted. It is expensive but it takes 3 frames per second, so there are no more "ohhh man we just missed it" moments. AND the pictures are so so so clear. I'm seriously in love with it!
I know it seems over board to get a digital slr, but it is really worth the money. I have the Rebel XT and love it. I would like to upgrade but am unwilling to fork out $1000 for 2 more megapix, go with Cannon, they put more research and development into digial than any other company out there and make a great product.
I'm cheap (or poor, I guess). I have the Canon Powershot SD600. It rocks! It's small enough to take everywhere, takes great pix, and it's so easy to use! They've come out with a sleeker design and more megapixels now, all for like $200.
Yeah, I need a camera too. I can't help you too much in that region.
SOOOOOO fun seeing you when you were here! I love the tan picture! HA ha ha ah ah ah, made me laugh fellow albino lady!
Obviously a DSLR will give you great pictures, BUT you have to lug around this massive camera that won't simply fit in your pocket, concealed, easy to access, easy to carry around at the beach, at Disneyland, at the park, wherever. Lot's of megapixels doesn't necessarly mean better pictures. Any modern camera these days has enough megapixels for decent prints. As far as posting stuff in your blog, unless you learn how to shrink your pictures, nobody is going to want to download your 4000x3000 pixel picture anyway. So, my sugestion is to drop by amazon.com and read as many personal reviews as you can, then drop by dpreview.com and read some more reviews, look at sample pics, etc. etc. Finding a camera isn't trivial, I don't think. Unless you got the bucks to bust out an SLR like the XT-series Canon cameras. Otherwise, the PowerShot SD-series always get great reviews and are one of the top-selling cameras for PS camera (point and shoot). Just my thoughts, cuz I want a new camera too, but Melissa thinks the one we have is fine, blah, out with the old, in with the new. Look for cameras with Image Stabalization and ones that take decent pictures in low light. - Dan
No advice. I hate that our camera takes the pictures seconds after I press the button. It takes better video than our video camera does though. Our camera is a Cannon Powershot A 550.
Ian's legs are also way more bronzed than mine. So unfair.
